To misspell a word is to write or type it with the wrong letters: a skipped letter, two letters swapped, or an extra one. Everyone does it. Spell-check catches many of these; names, new slang, and words the computer has not seen, it often does not. The past tense is misspelled in American English; British English also uses misspelt. Though actually, colour and color are not of each other — each is the normal spelling in its own country.
