壓在別人身上:不以為然
向下的力氣朝外,落在別人或別人的東西上。
adjective · C1
Showing that you think someone or something is not good enough. A deprecating look, tone or remark carries the criticism quietly, inside the way it is said, instead of stating it openly.
不以為然的;帶貶意的
You can picture deprecating as a small downward press. Nothing is shouted: the press lives in a look, a half-smile, a short laugh. Aim it at another person and it reads as quiet criticism — that thing of yours is not much. Aim it at yourself and it reads as 'never mind me', which takes the heat out of the moment. The gesture is the same size either way; what changes is who is underneath it.
