法律上點名
把名字叫出來這件事放到法庭上:被叫到的人必須現身,或被正式列進案件裡。
cite, summon to court · verb · C1
if a court cites someone, it officially tells that person they must come to the court on a certain day.
傳喚(到庭)
One way to hold it: calling something forward by name so everyone can see it. You name the example that backs you up, or the exact words you are borrowing, or the person the court wants standing in front of it, or the soldier whose bravery is being read out. In every case a name is spoken aloud and the thing it names is brought into view.
Cite is from Old French citer and Latin citare "to summon, urge, call; put in sudden motion, call forward" (PIE root *keie- "to set in motion"). The legal "summon officially" sense is the earliest in English (mid-15c.); "call forth a passage of writing, quote another's words" appears in the 1530s; "mention in an official dispatch" (public commendation) dates from 1918.
cite 來自古法語 citer、拉丁語 citare「傳喚、催促、叫喚;使突然動起來、叫到前面來」。英語裡最早的意思正是法律上的「正式傳喚」(十五世紀中葉);「把一段文字叫出來、引述他人的話」出現在 1530 年代;「在正式公報中被提名嘉獎」則要到 1918 年。所以引用、傳喚、表揚三種用法,共通的是「把名字叫出來」這個動作。
