情勢不站在你這邊
不偏向你的是外在的世界:天氣、市場、風向、合約條件。
adjective · C2
Describing conditions, weather or circumstances that are not good for what you want to do, so that it becomes harder or less likely to go well.
不利的/條件不好的
One way to hold this word: nothing is on your side. The wind blows against the boat, the market turns the week you open the shop, the reader closes your letter . Nobody has attacked you; the world has simply not leaned your way.
From un- + favourable, so literally 'not leaning your way'.
Wiktionary 記為 un- + favourable。favour 的意思是好意、偏袒,也就是「傾向你這一邊」;加上 un- 之後,整個字就是「沒有傾向你這一邊」。不管講的是天氣還是評論,底下都是同一個「不偏向你」的動作。
