From Middle French sincere, from Latin sincerus 'genuine'.
借自中古法文 sincere，源自拉丁文 sincerus「純正的」。
Think of what someone shows on the outside sitting exactly on top of what is inside — no gap between the two. When a thank-you is sincere, the words are simply the inside coming out; when it isn't, the words are a surface put there for you to look at.
可以想成外面表現出來的樣子，剛好蓋在裡面真正的感覺上，中間沒有縫。一句 sincere 的道謝，就是裡面的東西直接走出來；不 sincere 的道謝，是特地擺出來給你看的一層表面。這個「裡外對得上」的畫面，兩個用法都繞著它轉，差別只在你是在說那句話、還是在說講話的人。
