range covered · noun · C1
The whole area or range of things that a subject, activity, or book covers or deals with.
Think of aiming through a : the frame marks out exactly how much ground you take in — everything inside the edge counts, everything outside is beyond it. Scope is that whole marked-off extent.
From Italian scopo 'aim, target, thing aimed at', from Greek skopos 'target, one who watches'. Scope starts as the mark you aim at, and grows into the whole extent your aim (or subject) reaches.
