Ruthless describes a person, or their actions, showing no pity or mercy at all in getting what they want, even if it hurts other people. A ruthless business leader might fire many workers without a second thought if it helps profits. It's a strong, mostly negative word, though it's sometimes used with a bit of admiration for someone's total focus and lack of hesitation, like "a ruthless competitor" in sports.
