From Latin revelātiō, from revēlāre "to unveil" — re- "back" plus vēlum "veil, covering". Literally: to take the veil back off.
拉丁文 revēlāre 就是「掀開面紗」：re-（回、去掉）+ vēlum（面紗、覆蓋物）。vēlum 也是英文 veil（面紗）的來源。所以 revelation 字面上就是「把蓋著的那層拿掉」——今天不管用在八卦內幕還是宗教啟示，掀開的那個動作都還在。
