You can think of pick-up as the everyday act of picking something up, frozen into a noun: a hand reaches out, takes hold, and carries the thing away. Three small movements sit inside that picture — reaching, lifting, taking away — and the different meanings each keep one of them. Keep 'coming to take it away' and you get the collection, and the small open-backed truck that does the carrying. Keep the lifting and you get things rising: sales rising again, a car lifting its speed. Keep the reaching-and-catching and you get the guitar part that catches the sound of the strings.
pick-up 可以想成把「伸手把東西拿起來帶走」這個動作凍成一個名詞。畫面裡有三個小動作：手伸出去、抓住、帶走。不同的意思，各自留下其中一段。留下「來把它帶走」，就得到接送、收運，還有那台專門載東西走的小貨車。留下「往上抬」，就得到往上走的感覺：生意回升、車子提速。留下「伸手接住」，就得到吉他上那個把弦的聲音接下來的零件。
