You can picture need as a gap that has to be filled — there's something missing, and without it you can't keep going, stay healthy, or get the job done. It's stronger than just wanting: a want is nice to have, a need is the thing you'd break down without. Every use circles this hole: name what's missing and necessary, the feeling of that lack, or the rule that you'd better do something to fill it.
