Picture movement with no jerks and no visible effort — a dancer crossing a stage, a bird turning in the air, or the long curve of a bridge. Nothing catches, nothing is forced, and watching it is easy on the eye. That smoothness is the whole of graceful; when it is used about a person's behaviour, the same easy, unforced quality has simply moved from the body to the way someone handles other people.
