From Latin ērumpere: ē- 'out' + rumpere 'to break' — literally 'to break out'. The same rumpere gives rupture, interrupt and abrupt.
拉丁文 ērumpere＝ē-（出來）＋ rumpere（破、裂），字面就是「破出來」。同一個 rumpere 還生出 rupture（破裂）、interrupt（打斷）、abrupt（突然的）。所以「破開一層東西衝出去」不是比喻，是字本身的意思——後面每個用法都還帶著那層被撐破的表面。
