An eruption is when something suddenly bursts out with force - most commonly a volcano throwing out hot rock, ash, and gas. The word is also used for sudden bursts of feeling or reaction, like 'an eruption of anger' or 'an eruption of applause', and even for skin, when a rash suddenly appears (a 'skin eruption').
