From Anglo-French arrivaille, from Old French ariver, from Vulgar Latin *arripare: ad 'to' + ripa 'shore' — literally 'to come to the shore', the end of a sea voyage. The sea is gone from the modern word, but the shape of it, reaching the end of a journey, is still there.
來自古法語 ariver，再往前是通俗拉丁文 *arripare：ad「到」＋ ripa「岸」，字面就是「靠岸」，指航海的終點。今天講 arrival 早就不限於船，但「一段路程走到底、人到了」這個形狀一直留著，機場的 Arrivals 其實就是現代版的靠岸處。
