Domination is control — power over someone or something, the kind that does not leave much room to say no. Countries talk about political domination. A person can have domination over a conversation or a team if nobody else can get a word in. It feels heavier than dominance. Dominance can be a fact (“they have dominance in this market”). Domination is more the act or the hold (“their domination of the market”). It is a serious word: history, , news, and sometimes personal relationships. In some adult sexual talk it also means one partner taking control, which is the neighbourhood of — but the meaning you will meet in school is simply strong control. Though actually, using domination for a sports win can sound a bit much; newspapers do it for drama, but it paints the other side as crushed, not merely beaten.
