from God · adjective · B2
Coming from God or a god, or connected with God.
Picture something that belongs to a god — it comes down from above, carries a glow that ordinary things don't have, and seems to know or reach things people can't.
From Latin divinus 'of a god', from divus/deus 'god'. The same root gives divinare 'to foresee as if inspired by a god', which is where the verb 'to divine (sense, guess)' comes from — so the god-adjective and the guessing-verb are one family.
