1. 1

A godly person tries to obey God and lead a good life. We also say a godly home or a godly life. It is a church word, and older speakers use it more freely. Younger people may know it but not say it, unless they grew up in church. Though actually, it can also be an adverb — to live godly — but that use is less common now; most people say “in a godly way.” Do not mix it with . A godly woman may be quiet and kind. A woman, in praise, sounds like a goddess.
