From French diplomatique, ultimately from Latin diploma — the official document that authorised someone to act on a state's behalf.
來自法文 diplomatique，源頭是拉丁文 diploma：授權某人代表國家出面的官方文件。所以這個字骨子裡就是「帶著代表身分的」——因為代表身分，講話才必須謹慎，後來那份謹慎本身也變成這個字的意思。
