From Old French continuel, from Latin continuus "hanging together, uninterrupted", from contineō (con- "together" + teneō "to hold") — literally "held together without letting go".
來自古法文 continuel，源頭是拉丁文 continuus（連在一起、不間斷的），而 continuus 又出自 contineō（con- 一起 ＋ teneō 握住）——字面是「握在一起不放手」。這個「不放手」正是現代 continual 的感覺：事情一直被握著，不讓它結束。
