來自古法文 continuel,源頭是拉丁文 continuus(連在一起、不間斷的),而 continuus 又出自 contineō(con- 一起 + teneō 握住)——字面是「握在一起不放手」。這個「不放手」正是現代 continual 的感覺:事情一直被握著,不讓它結束。
