verb · C1
To surprise people so much that they cannot make sense of what has happened, because it is the opposite of what they were expecting.
Things that were clear a moment ago get poured together into one pot and stirred. Now nobody can pick them apart again: not the person looking at them, not the person who arranged them, not the person who was sure they knew what would happen. Every use of this word is some version of that stirring.
Latin confundo meant to mingle or mix together, and it is the same root that gives fusion. English kept the pouring-together picture and applied it to minds, arguments, and plans.

verb · C2
To defeat an enemy, or to stop a plan from working.
verb · C2
Said when you are annoyed with someone or something. It is an old-fashioned, mild way of swearing, used in place of a stronger word.
該死!
