From Latin salvus "unharmed, safe" (also behind safe and salvage): to keep something from being lost or used up — whether that is a life or a sum of money.

save 來自拉丁文 salvus「完好無損、安全的」（同源的還有 safe、salvage）。原本的意思是「使某物保持完好、不受損失」，救人一命是這樣，把錢留住不花掉也是這樣——都是不讓東西流失掉。中文的「省」和「存」把這兩邊分開了，英文則共用同一個底層畫面。
