1. 1

Spending is the money that goes out — how much is paid, usually by a government, a company, or a whole group of people. It is an uncountable noun, so no 'a' and no 's': 'government spending', 'consumer spending', 'military spending', 'spending on health care'.

Spending就是 that goes out流出去的 the money錢—— usually通常 by a government由政府、 a company公司 or a whole group of people或一整群人 is paid付出去的 how much金額。 It它 is an uncountable noun是不可數名詞, so所以 no 'a'前面不加 'a'、 and no 's'字尾也不加 's': 'government spending'政府支出、 'consumer spending'消費支出、 'military spending'軍事支出、 'spending on health care'花在醫療照護上的支出。

You will meet it constantly in news about money: 'spending has risen', 'spending cuts', 'a spending limit'. Notice it points at the amount and the pattern, not at one purchase — you would not say 'my spending on that coffee'.

in news about money在講錢的新聞裡 You will meet it constantly你會不斷遇到它: 'spending has risen'支出上升了、 'spending cuts'削減支出、 'a spending limit'支出上限。 Notice注意 it points at它指的是 the amount and the pattern金額和整體樣態, not at one purchase不是單獨的一筆消費—— you would not say你不會說 'my spending on that coffee'我花在那杯咖啡上的支出。

When it is about a person, it usually still means the overall habit: 'She's trying to cut down on her spending.' You will also see it as the plain -ing form of the verb ('I'm spending too much this month'), and as a describing word in front of nouns: a spending spree (a burst of happy, fast buying), spending power (how much your money can actually buy).

When it is about a person當它說的是個人時, it usually still means它通常仍然指 the overall habit整體的花錢習慣: 'She's trying to cut down on her spending.'她正在努力減少開銷。 You will also see it你也會看到它 as the plain -ing form of the verb就是動詞平常的 -ing 形式 ('I'm spending too much this month'我這個月花太多了), and as a describing word也會當形容用的字 in front of nouns放在名詞前面: a spending spree一陣血拚 (a burst of happy, fast buying一波開心又快速的採買)、 spending power消費力 (how much your money can actually buy你的錢實際上能買到多少)。

One useful pair: 'spending' is the money going out, 'income' or 'revenue' is the money coming in.

One useful pair一組好用的對照: 'spending'支出 is是 the money going out流出去的錢, 'income'收入 or 'revenue'或營收 is是 the money coming in流進來的錢。
