From French rallier, Old French ralier "to reassemble, unite again" (re- "again" + alier "unite"). The military noun "a rapid regrouping after a repulse" (1650s) came first; the American "mass meeting" sense arrived in the 1840s, and motor racing borrowed French rallye "gathering of enthusiasts" back from English in 1932.
來自法文 rallier、古法文 ralier「重新集合、再度聯合」（re-「再」＋ alier「聯合」）。最早是軍事上的「潰散後迅速重整」（1650 年代），1840 年代美式英文才有「群眾大會」的用法，而賽車的 rally 是 1932 年從法文 rallye 借回來的——法文那個字本身又是從英文借過去的「同好聚會」。所以拉力賽的源頭同樣是「聚集」。
