Picture a building that has been holding itself up suddenly giving way — the walls cave in and the whole thing drops to the ground in a heap. The core picture is something that was standing and supporting itself losing its support all at once and falling/ in. Everything else borrows that sudden, total give-way: a person, a company, prices, even a lung.
