noun · B2
Someone who works to get other people to support, use or believe in an idea, a product or a way of doing things.
Picture something standing still until one person or one thing gives it a push forward. A promoter is whatever supplies that push — the shove that turns an idea into something people know about, or a plan into an evening that actually happens.
From promote, which goes back to Latin prōmoveō: prō- 'forward' plus moveō 'move'. The -er ending makes it the one who does that moving.
