You can picture one stretch of ground: grass underfoot, big trees standing well apart instead of crowding together, and open sky in the spaces between them. It is not a forest, because you can see through it and walk across it. It is not a bare field, because the trees are there. Every use of parkland comes back to that same picture; what changes is who the land belongs to and how it got that way.
