A prairie is a wide, fairly flat stretch of land in North America, covered in grass — or, these days, often in wheat. There are few trees. The sky feels huge. The word belongs especially to Canada and the United States; it is not the usual name for in Africa or Asia. Though actually, much of the old wild prairie has been turned into farms, so when people say prairie they may mean the of that region as much as the wild grass itself. It is a geography-and-story word: you meet it in , western films, and talk about the American Midwest. In Britain people more often say or plain for similar land elsewhere, and keep prairie for that North American picture.
組成Borrowed from French prairie, from Old French praerie, from Latin pratum “meadow” + -aria (a place of that kind). So the pieces say “meadow-land.”
