maximise 是 maximize 的英式拼法，意思一樣。英國的考試和書多半用這個拼法。

Push a dial all the way to its highest setting — not just up, but as far up as it will go. The word always points at the ceiling: profit taken to its limit, a window opened to fill the whole screen, a resource used for everything it can give.
可以想成：把一個旋鈕轉到底——不只是往上調，而是調到不能再高。這個字永遠指向「上限」：利潤推到極限、視窗開到佔滿整個螢幕、一樣資源用到它能給的全部。這也是它跟 increase 的差別：increase 只說變多，maximize 說的是推到最高。
