From Latin legenda, 'things to be read' (legere 'to read') — originally saints' lives read aloud in church, often heavily embellished. So a 'legend' is a much-retold, half-true story, and legendary means belonging to such a story.
源自拉丁文 legenda「該被讀出來的東西」（legere＝讀），本來指教堂裡朗讀的聖人事蹟，常越傳越誇張。所以 legend 是被反覆傳誦、半真半假的故事，legendary 就是「屬於這種故事的」。
