Celebrated, in this sense, means famous — known by many people, usually for something good. A celebrated writer, a celebrated scientist, a celebrated restaurant: people have heard of them, and they are often praised. It feels a little more formal, and a little warmer, than famous. Famous can be anyone the public knows, even for a bad reason; celebrated usually says people respect this. Though actually, you will also see celebrated as the past of the verb celebrate (“they celebrated last night”). That is a different job. This sense is the adjective: she is a celebrated .
