Noted as an adjective means well known or famous, especially for a skill, a body of work, or a quality: a noted scientist, noted for her honesty. It is more formal and a little quieter than famous. Famous people are widely known; a noted person may be well known mainly inside a field. You often see noted for…. Though actually, the same spelling is also the ordinary past of the verb note (“She noted the time”), which does not mean famous at all — only “wrote down” or “noticed”. The “famous” meaning almost always sits before a noun, or after be: He is a noted chef.
