From Middle French ingredient, from Latin ingrediens, present participle of ingredior 'to go into'.
借自中古法文，源自拉丁文 ingredior「走進」的現在分詞。
You can picture an ingredient as one of the things that went into the bowl: on its own it is just flour, or an egg, but once everything is mixed you cannot see it any more — you only taste the result. The word always looks at a finished whole and names one of the parts that had to go in to make it.
可以想成 ingredient 是「當初丟進碗裡的其中一樣」：單獨看只是麵粉、一顆蛋，可是攪一攪之後你就看不到它了，只嚐得到成品。這個字永遠是站在成品這邊往回看，指出「要做成這個，這一樣非放不可」。
