Latin fabula 'story, tale' (from fari 'to speak') → fabulosus 'celebrated in fable' → English fabulous, first 'of the nature of a fable', later 'incredible, marvellous'.
拉丁文 fabula 是「故事、傳說」（來自 fari「說」），衍生的 fabulosus 意思是「在傳說中被講述的」。所以 fabulous 和 fable 是同一家人：先指「傳說裡的」，再因為傳說中的事物總是誇張離奇，滑向「大得誇張、好得離譜」。
