Wiktionary traces discordant through Old French descordant, the present participle of descorder "to fail to agree or harmonize, clash, disagree", back to Latin discordāre. The Old French adjective was already used both of quarrelsome people and of things at variance, which is why the modern word covers sound, fit and agreement alike.
