From Middle English differently; different + -ly.
源自中古英文 differently，就是 different 加上 -ly。
Two things laid side by side that do not match. The word marks the gap between them, and what sits on the other side of the gap changes the flavour: another person, an earlier version of yourself, a method you already tried, or simply 'what people normally do' — and that last one is where the word can turn into a gentle way of saying you are not sure you like it.
可以想成：兩樣東西並排放著，對不起來。這個字標記的就是中間那道落差；而落差的另一邊放的是誰，味道就跟著變：可能是另一個人、可能是以前的你、可能是你剛試過的做法，也可能只是「大家平常的樣子」——最後這一種，正是它會變成一句委婉評語的地方。
