written commentary; analysis · noun · B2
Writing that explains or gives opinions about a book, poem, idea, or situation.
One way to hold it: a voice running alongside something else. The match is happening; the commentator's words travel next to it, telling you what you are seeing. Move that voice onto paper and it becomes writing that runs alongside a book or an idea, explaining and judging as it goes.
