A commentator is someone who talks about an event as it happens, or gives their opinion on it afterward, usually on TV, radio, or in the news. A sports commentator describes a football game live, play by play. A political commentator gives their opinion and analysis about news and government decisions, often on TV shows or in newspaper columns. The key idea is that a commentator explains or gives an opinion, rather than just reporting plain facts.
