From Middle English clipper, that is clip (cut, shorten) plus the agent suffix -er. The ship sense is probably also from clip, but in its other sense of moving or running rapidly, perhaps helped along by Middle Dutch klepper, a swift horse.
來自中古英語 clipper，也就是 clip（剪、弄短）加上 -er（做這件事的人或東西）。船那一支的來源可能也是 clip，但用的是它另一個意思「飛奔」，而且可能受到中古荷蘭文 klepper（快馬）的影響。所以同一個拼法下面，其實躺著兩條線：剪，和快。
