核心畫面

One picture can be held for the whole word: something wound tightly round loose things so they stay together. Cut it and the pile falls apart. Sometimes the loose things are physical — pages, cloth edges, sticks of firewood. Sometimes they are not — a name and a piece of code, or two people and what they promised each other. The word always points at the thing doing the holding, not at what is held.

The source entry gives: from Middle English byndynge, that is bind plus -ing. So the word is literally the -ing form of the verb bind, and it names either the act of tying or the thing that does the tying.
