You can think of all right as a quick check that comes back clean. Someone runs their eye over a person, a plan or a moment and finds nothing wrong anywhere: all of it is right. Everything else this phrase does grows out of that one moment of checking. If the check is about a body, it means . If it is about a thing, it means good enough and no more. If it is about a plan, it means it fits you. And if the check happens inside a conversation, it becomes the small word that says we are still together, carry on.
