From Middle English indede, a fusing of the phrase in dede 'in fact'; in + deed.

源自中古英文片語 in dede「事實上」，就是 in 加 deed。

You can picture 'indeed' as a hand pressing down on what was just said to make it firmer — 'yes, really, in actual fact.' That one move of pressing-down stretches in a few directions: pressing your own statement firmer, pressing an even stronger point on top of it, pressing up an adjective after 'very', or — said with a raised — pressing back on what someone else just claimed.

可以想成「一隻手往剛說的話上壓一下」，把它壓得更實——「對，真的，事實就是如此」。這個「往下壓實」的動作往幾個方向延伸：壓實自己剛講的話、在上面再加壓一句更重的、壓在 very＋形容詞後面把它頂得更強，或者——挑著眉說出口時——反過來去頂回別人剛剛講的那句。
