You can picture 'indeed' as a hand pressing down on what was just said to make it firmer — 'yes, really, in actual fact.' That one move of pressing-down stretches in a few directions: pressing your own statement firmer, pressing an even stronger point on top of it, pressing up an adjective after 'very', or — said with a raised — pressing back on what someone else just claimed.

同樣是「壓一下」，但壓的對象換成別人剛說的話，而且帶著表情。語氣一翻，本來壓實自己的 indeed，就變成挑著眉去頂回對方——半信半疑、甚至有點不以為然。
