From Latin subscriptiō (sub- + script + -ion): signing one's name beneath something to agree to it.
借自拉丁文 subscriptiō，原意是在下面簽名表示同意。
Picture a standing arrangement to pay: the same amount leaves at the same time each month or year, and because it keeps coming, something on the other side keeps happening. The word covers both the money and the act of committing to it.
