One way to hold storied: the -ed ending here means carrying something, the way means carrying a beard. So storied is carrying stories. A storied hotel walks around with a hundred tales stuck to its name, and you cannot say the name without one of them coming along. The second meaning of storied borrows the same ending but a different story: a building carrying floors.

From the word’s history

Wiktionary gives two separate routes for this spelling: story (a tale) + -ed, and story (a floor, level) + -ed. They are different words that happen to look the same.
