From Middle English southest, from Old English sūþēast; south + east.

源自古英文 sūþēast，就是 south 加 east。

You can picture a compass: north at the top, east on the right, south at the bottom. Southeast is the point exactly halfway between south and east — the lower-right corner of the map. Every other use of the word is that one bearing applied to something: to a part of a country, to the wind, to the side of a building.

可以想成一個羅盤：上北、下南、右東。southeast 就是南和東正中間的那一格，也就是地圖的右下角。這個字剩下的用法，都是把這個方位貼到某樣東西上——貼到國土上就是東南部，貼到風上就是東南風，貼到房子上就是東南面。
