"revenge" is Old French revengier — re- (here an intensifier) + vengier "to take revenge," from Latin vindicare "to lay claim to, avenge." The core is that returning blow: paying the hurt back.
revenge 來自古法文 revengier：re-（這裡是加強語氣）＋ vengier「報仇」，再往上是拉丁文 vindicare「討回、伸張」。字根裡的畫面比較像那記「還回去」的一擊——把受的傷討回來。
