Forgiveness is when someone forgives another person — you stop holding the wrong against them. It can be one act (“she asked for his forgiveness”) or a bigger idea people talk about in religion, , and serious talks at home. It is heavier and more formal than that’s okay or never mind. You can ask for it, offer it, refuse it, or take a long time to find it; the word names that whole exchange, not only a quick “sorry.” It does not mean the hurt never happened. It means the person who was hurt is no longer making the other person pay for it in the same way.
