You can think of renewed as a second round. Something was here, it or stopped, and now it is back — and the second round usually comes back stronger than the first. That is what separates it from new, which has no first round behind it. Point that picture at a feeling in the world and you get renewed interest; point it at a tired person and you get someone who feels renewed.
