Increased means something has become bigger — more in amount, number, or how strong it is. “The price increased” and “they increased the price” both work: a thing can grow by itself, or someone can make it grow. As a describing word, an increased risk is a risk that is already bigger than before. Though actually, increased and increasing are not twins. Increased looks back: the change has happened. Increasing is still going on. The word is ordinary — news, school, shops — not fancy. In very casual talk people also just say “went up” or “got bigger.”

組成increase + -ed (past, or already bigger). Increase does not split in a helpful way — the crease in your trousers is a different word. It comes from Latin for “grow.”
