One way to hold this `peaked` is as a face with the colour gone out of it. Not a diagnosis — a look. The person at breakfast whose hands are around a hot cup, the off the overnight flight. Something has been taken out of them and it shows on the outside, which is why the word so often arrives as a question: you look peaked, are you all right?

Wiktionary files this adjective under a second, separate etymology of peak (etymology 2), away from the mountain-top word, and glosses it 'Sickly-looking, peaky'. The packet also records the pronunciation spelling pekid pointing back to it.

One way to hold this `peaked` is as a shape with something sticking out of it. Peak + -ed, the same build as or : it has a peak. Sometimes that peak is on top — a wizard's tall hat, a steep roof. Most often it is at the front: the stiff curved piece over a driver's or a guard's eyes.
