But it's used even more often in a figurative way, meaning something looks hopeful, positive, and likely to turn out well — a rosy future, a rosy outlook for the economy. People sometimes use it a little doubtfully too, to suggest something sounds too good to be true: "that plan sounds a bit rosy to me."
